Vital Records
Vital records in New York State refer to birth, death and marriage. Birth and death certificates are filed in whatever city, town, or village the event occurred. Certified copies of birth and death records may be obtained in the local office or by sending by mail. the fee is $10.00 per copy. A valid driver's license must also be presented at time of request. To obtain an individual's birth certificate from the Olean office, that individual must have been born in Olean. The same applies for death certificates, the individual must have passed away in Olean.
Marriage records are filed in whatever city, town, or village the license was purchased. Certified copies of marriage records are $10.00 each and may be purchased in the local office or by sending by mail. To obtain a marriage license from the Olean office, the license must have been purchased in Olean.
A license to be married may be purchased anywhere in New York State and used anywhere in the state. The license must be obtained at least one full day before the ceremony as there is a one day waiting period after the couple buys the license. The license, however, is good to use for sixty (60) days; therefore it may be purchased ahead of time, and the fee is $40.00. (appointments are appreciated)
