WATER METER CONVERSION PROGRAM
April 30, 2009
The City of Olean will be undertaking a Program to convert existing water
meters and the billing system to an automatic meter reading system.
The new system will allow the City to quickly and accurately read water
meters via radio signals. The radio signal is sent from the water customer’s
meter to a tower mounted receiver. This system utilizes state of the art
technology that is cost effective and accurate. The new system will reduce
the City’s operating costs for meter reading and data processing.
This Project was approved by the Common Council under Resolution #72-08 on
August 26, 2008.
There is NO CHARGE to the resident or property owner for the work to be
performed under this Program.
Starting in the month of May 2009, the John W. Danforth Company, will be
contacting residents and property owners by postcard and phone call to
schedule water meter upgrades. Appointments will be scheduled Monday through
Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. An adult, 18 years or older, must be present
to sign completed work. John W. Danforth employees will be displaying Photo
Identification Badges as proper identification. The water meter and billing
system upgrades are expected to be completed by the end of the year.
Again, there will be NO CHARGE for this water meter upgrade and the regular
billing cycle will not be interrupted. All customers are required to have
their meter(s) upgraded to comply with this City wide conversion.
We ask that you promptly schedule an appointment when contacted.
Non-compliance with this conversion may result in a termination of service.
A re-connection fee will be charged if your service is terminated for
non-compliance.
Thank you for your cooperation.
Mayor David J. Carucci
