City of Olean Emergency Response Planning Overview

NIMS (National Incident Management System) training is required by New York State for elected and municipal leaders.

Both myself and Department of Public Works Director Mr. Ashok Kapoor completed ICS/NIMS 1-300 training and received our certificates.

We’re in the process of updating our city’s plan, this would include Fire/Police/DPW/Administration/elected officials in coordination with the county’s Emergency Services (Chris Baker)

We learned the importance of having an ICP (Incident Command Post): that location at which the primary command functions are executed and usually co-located with the incident base.

Development and maintenance of the ICS (Incident Command System): The combination of facilities, equipment, personnel, procedures and communication operating within a common organizational structure with responsibility for the management of assigned resources to effectively accomplish stated objectives pertaining to an incident.

Most important: have a plan, practice through drills with surrounding municipalities and the county. The most important aspect to having a positive outcome is communication!!!
