OLEAN – Mayor Linda Witte has launched a bi-weekly newsletter to keep Olean residents informed of the latest developments in city government.

“Community Update” will be published in a newsletter format twice each month, on the 15th and 30th, and will contain news items and color pictures that often don’t make it into the newspapers or TV news broadcasts. Sometimes readers may discover more information on a subject or an event in the newsletter’s pages than has been published in the mainstream media.

“It’s my goal to present a high level of transparency in our local government as my administration goes about the day-to-day business of providing services for the people of Olean,” said Mayor Witte. “You can be assured that what you read on the newsletter’s pages is based on fact and actual events.”

The inaugural edition features short accounts of events during the first half of January: the Mayor’s State of the City Address, swearing-in of the aldermen along with a group photo of them and their phone numbers; other items of interest are meetings of the Community Warmth Consortium, the Twin Tier Aviation Association. Noted are new businesses coming to Olean, and anticipation of the East Olean sewer, water and storm drainage upgrades.

Finally, Mayor Witte points to the upcoming negotiation of her 2012-2013 budget proposal and the work of the Council’s new Strategic Planning Committee. In the future, there will be a chance for readers to send in questions pertaining to the whole community. Answers will appear in a future newsletter.

“Community Update” will appear in PDF format on the city’s website on the 15th and 30th of each month. To find it, type www.cityofolean.org into your browser. You can click on “Mayor Linda Witte’s Bi-Weekly Newsletter, January 15, 2012” in the list of links on the city’s home page. Or you can find the newsletter by going to the “Department” dropdown menu and clicking on “Mayor”. Once on the Mayor’s page you can click on “Mayor’s Newsletter” which appears on a menu at the left of the page.
