Seasonal Employees

The City of Olean, Division of Youth & Recreation Services employs seasonal employees. The positions and job qualifications are list below. To apply for any of these positions, you can obtain an application from the Civil Service Office, P.O. Box 668, Municipal Building, Olean, NY 14760.

WINTER SEASON

RECREATION CENTER

Skateguard: 7 Positions

Basic first aid course required. Recreation Supervisor will test candidates for skill in ice skating at time of appointment. Must be 17 years of age.
Note: Standard first aid and personal safety or American National Red Cross Advanced Life Saving & Water Safety courses are acceptable as basic first-aid course.

Recreation Attendant: 3 Positions

St. John’s Recreational Facility

Recreation Specialist: 2 Positions

Graduation from senior high school or possession of high school equivalency diploma and two years of seasonal experience in the field of recreation. Must be 18 years of age.

Recreation Leader: 6 Positions

SUMMER SEASON

Olean Recreation Center and Municipal Pools

Senior Lifeguard: 4 Positions

Standard first aid course and CPR required. Graduation from senior high school or possession of high school equivalency diploma and two years of seasonal experience as a lifeguard, swimming instructor, or camp counselor.

National Red Cross Advanced Life Saving & Water Safety courses are acceptable as basic first-aid course.

Lifeguard: 11 Positions

Basic first aid and CPR course required.

Recreation Attendant: 6 Positions

Playground Program

Recreation Leader: 18 Positions

Recreation Specialist: 3 Positions

All candidates must have completed grade school, be at least sixteen years of age (unless otherwise noted), and be eligible for working papers.
