Training Center Information
The training center is
located on the Gargoyle Road in the Town of Allegany. All of the local fire
companies as well as the local, county, and state police agencies use the
facility for different types of training. Due to the age as well as the
condition of the building, live burns are no longer conducted. There is a
classroom building with a kitchen/facilities, a 4 story training tower as
well as a repel point on the roof. There is also an area for vehicle
extrication and a drafting pump.
Here is a timeline of when things were completed:
1968 – First Phase of
the Training Tower completed.
1969 – A water supply and electricity were installed at the Training
Facility.
1970 – The training grounds were expanded 17,000 feet and a driver training
site was added.
1979 – State funds were secured and a 40’ x 80’ classroom building was
built.
1983 – Five story steel fire escape was erected to the four story tower
building (which was donated by a contractor who removed it from the
Telephone Company building). Steel shutters were added to all the windows to
replace the wooded ones, which were rotting. Drafting pits for testing
pumpers (3 tanks) were installed to provide a source of water supply. These
tanks were donated by Dresser Industries and with the help of the DPW, two
were buried and are operable. The third is being programmed for above ground
fire training evolutions.
This facility now includes a four story tower, storage building, classroom, fencing, oil fire tanks, a small building for fire extinguisher training, and extrication area, and areas earmarked for LPG, electrical and fire department pumper training.
