Cat Owners in Ward 5: Please Prepare for Trap Neuter Vaccinate Return Program

May 22, 2019—Olean— The City of Olean in conjunction with Catt County Cat Nippers will be holding a Trap, Neuter, Vaccinate and Return (TNVR) Program in Ward 5 on June 2 through June 8, 2019. All cat owners should be aware of the program and follow the steps listed below.

Cattaraugus Cat Nippers has worked to stabilize the overpopulation of feral cats in the county since 2018. The organization will work with Operation PETS, the Spay Neuter Clinic of WNY, to neuter and vaccinate the feral cats that plague Olean’s neighborhoods.

This program helps both the cats and the neighborhood. After the cats are neutered and vaccinated, their ears will be surgically tipped and they will be returned to the neighborhood where they were trapped. They will no longer be able to reproduce, thus reducing the feral cat population in the neighborhood.

Cat owners should take the following precautions to keep their cat from being accidently trapped:

Keep domestic cats inside during the trapping period;

If homeowner’s feed domestic cats outside, be sure to move the feeding apparatus inside prior to the day that trapping begins.

Residences in the neighborhoods scheduled for trapping will be tagged prior to the event with more information. If residents have questions please feel free to call Mayor Aiello’s office at 716 376 5615 or Alderman Crawford at 716 790 8607.
