Fire Chief Announced

City of Olean Fire Chief Announced

January 29, 2020—Olean— William J. Aiello, Mayor of the City of Olean, has announced the appointment of Lieutenant Timothy C. Richardson as the next Fire Chief of the Department of Fire, Building and Emergency for the City of Olean. Chief Richardson’s appointment was approved by the City’s Aldermen at the Common Council Meeting on January 28, 2020.

Chief Richardson will oversee the day-to-day operations of the department and serve as chief counsel to the Mayor in matters of fire, building and emergency services.

Chief Richardson is an eighteen year veteran of the City of Olean Department of Fire, Building and Emergency Services; he rose through the ranks from Firefighter/Paramedic to Lieutenant. He has served as Lieutenant of EMS, Controlled Substances Agent, EMS Training Coordinator, American Heart Association Instructor, and Quality Assurance Program Coordinator. He also serves as the Department’s representative on the Cattaraugus County EMS Advisory Committee and Southwestern New York’s Regional EMS Council.

In addition to graduating from the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Sports Medicine, Chief Richardson later received an Associate Degree in Applied Sciences in Paramedicine from Corning Community College. He attained certifications from the New York State Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services, the State of New York Fire Prevention and Control, the New York State Department of Health Bureau of Emergency Medical Services, Southern Tier Emergency Medical System, FEMA National Fire Academy, Federal Resources, International Trauma Life Support, the American Heart Association, and the American Academy of Pediatrics.

Chief Richardson has been married to his wife Michelle for 16 years and has two children: Justin, 14, and Leah, 11. The Richardson family resides on King Street in the City of Olean.

Chief Richardson will succeed Robert Bell, a thirty-five year veteran of the City of Olean Department of Fire, Building and Emergency. Chief Bell was appointed Fire Chief in 2000.
