Tree Inventory & Community Forest Management Plan
Public Kick-Off Meeting Announced

April 22, 2021—Olean— William J. Aiello, Mayor of the City of Olean, is pleased to announce that the Public Kick-off Meeting for the Tree Inventory and Community Forest Management Plan Project will be held on Wednesday, May 19, 2021 at 5:30 p.m. via Zoom. The link to join the meeting will be available on the City’s website prior to the event under the Department of Community Development’s webpage.

The City recently received a $32,750 grant to complete a Tree Inventory and Community Forest Management Plan. The grant, awarded by the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation, is part of $1.4 million dedicated to urban forestry projects across the state to help communities inventory, plant, and maintain public trees. The grants are part of DEC’s Urban and Community Forestry Program, which works to increase public awareness of the importance of trees and helps communities develop and implement comprehensive tree management plans to create healthy forests while enhancing quality of life for residents.

“Our urban forest is an important feature of our community and this grant allows us to complete a tree inventory that will detail the age, species, health and geographic distribution of the trees Once the inventory is completed a tree management plan will developed.” said Mayor Aiello.

“I am looking forward to this event as it will explain the project, allow for valuable public input, raise awareness, and engage residents to determine the public’s needs,” added Mayor Aiello. “Public involvement is important as the end result will allow us to properly maintain trees that we have and plant new tress that will thrive for the next generation.
